I had written a blog recently but I took it down because it was unloving. Octaman is supposed to be all about love. Sharing that with people should always be my highest goal, but occasionally under certain life circumstances we can forget just what our purpose is. For me and those of my same Christian belief, I say it's love and only loving.
There are some funny ideas out there about love and just what it is and what it means. Being in the music business I am continually confronted by strange notions of love that are often put to music. Over the Super Bowl weekend Steve Winwood was on television singing "bring me a higher love", but what is really meant by that? Whitney Houston sings, "I found the greatest love of all, inside of me." Well with respect to her and all those who have recorded that song, no she really didn't find any such thing.
The highest form of love is Divine love. It's not found inside oneself, but outside and beyond oneself. In the Greek it is called "agape" love. It is higher than mere friendship or even familial love. It is a self sacrificing love, or the setting aside of ones own self interests for the good of another. As Christ Himself taught us, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
No one can have this love inside themselves, for it is a gift from above, from a divine source. Love in it's highest form is the spirit of holiness that can only be appropriated through the practice and studying of the Truth as given by Jesus and the apostles and the prophets.
Other religions and belief systems cannot match the loving promise of the Kingdom of God as given in the Holy Scriptures, which is nothing less than the resurrection and eternal blessing of all mankind. The Bible is the only book in the world that proves itself through unerring prophecy, so it behooves us to take a deeper look than just the outer cover and listen to it's blessed message - apart from the man-made creeds.
The following lyric is from the Octaman song "Only Loving", which explains that in the future Kingdom of God on earth "there will be one thing allowed: Only Loving".
"Read the Word and live upright
Be not wise in your own sight
Love and righteousness will rule and reign I say
Pick up your countenance and follow in the way
Of His glory and Majesty
Sure word of prophecy
Telling you one time and you'd better listen
Without the Bible you don’t know what you’re missing
Telling you one time, telling you again
God is love and His law is only loving"
In a more cryptic manner I broach the topic of the highest love in my song We Need The Kingdom,
"Love is on the highest floor
I see the type that might start the elevator
Save the open door
When it's closed, that time is gone forever...
elevate your brain, elevate your mind..."
Some may wonder what I meant by all that. There is more than one meaning to it, but on one level it simply says that if you see a chance to do something nice for someone, even just holding the elevator door, you ought to do it because when that door shuts you've lost your chance to help someone who may need it.
It also suggests that we pick ourselves up spiritually and get ourselves out of the mundane thoughts of self and self interests. I simply wanted to elevate my own mind so I chose to remove a posting that, while not untrue or mean-spirited, I saw as self-centered and non-constructive. I want to get back to what I actually sing about - only loving. That will be the pervading thought in the Kingdom soon to rule the earth.
Oh how we need the Kingdom! It will be a time when peace and love will reign from shore to shore and will flow from every heart, as penned by Pastor Russell and sung by me in the song "Eyes of Faith":
"Close your eyes for a moment
To the scenes of misery and woe
Degradation and sorrow
That yet prevail on account of sin
And picture before your mental vision
The glory of a perfect earth
Not a stain of sin mars the harmony
And peace of perfect society
Not a bitter thought
Not an unkind look or word
Love, welling up from every heart,
Meets a kindred response in every other heart,
And benevolence marks every act. "
That day is coming fast when all will have a share of the divine benefits of what is truly "a higher love." They will experience the blessings that flow from "the greatest love of all" which is God's gift of His only Son, the Ransom price that saved mankind from sin and death. In that day there will be "only loving". Every heart and mind will indeed be elevated beyond the interests of self, for the blessing and peace of one's neighbor instead.
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matthew 22:37-40
For those of us who already know these things, we can go ahead and start loving ahead of time, forgetting about ourselves and our narrow view of selfish love while seeking the hightest welfare of others. God has shared with us a large measure of his peace and love. It is the mission of our life to reflect back as much of that love as we can, while we can.
Let Yah be praised! Psalm 150

And I especially liked that thought about the many different "levels" of thought in the "elevator" song... that's a pretty deep expression if you ask me. I agree entirely, and it goes back to that old poem
Let every thought thy lips would utter pass three gates of gold
And if through these it fails to pass then let it not be told
Above each gate in silver letters, written you will find
Above the first one is it true?
The second: Is it kind?
And is it necessary o'er the third one and the last;
So guard your thoughts, let none escape-
Save those these gates have passed.
Move over Windwood... Give me a higher love

I am so happy I found you site and ordered your CD--I am a christian monotheist constantly arguing with most others who believe in the trinity, who cannot come up with it in scripture. No wonder I was confused-most so called christian churches tell us that we have to believe the doctrine of the trinity-which is very pagan-I do know one thing that most churches are one hair short of the RC church which in my opinion is a cult I was raised in the Rc church and even taught there so I know what they teach.
